Nesting Bowls

I began working with clay as a teenager in Greensboro, NC and continued my studies of ceramics and sculpture in college at UNC-Asheville. When I graduated in 2001, my interest in living a handmade life led me to work on a larger scale, and I spent the next few years gaining experience with indigenous architecture using clay, sand and straw. I spent time in Thailand, Northern New Mexico and Austin, Texas before ending up back in western North Carolina in 2005.

I have long been drawn to the pleasing combination of form and function, and slowly sculpting houses out of earthen materials allowed me to continue my exploration of creating objects that are useful as well as beautiful. I am passionate about living a life with as many handcrafted ingredients as possible, from brewing soda out of freshly dug sassafras roots to making sauerkraut from homegrown cabbage in one of my handmade crocks. My forms range from plates, bowls, and mugs to teapots, sake sets, and hand carved boxes. I strive to make sweet yet sturdy one-of-a-kind pots, which can both survive a rough and tumble life and enhance humble daily rituals.
