J. Michael Powers is a ceramic artist who splits his time between Alfred, N.Y. and Raleigh, N.C. He has exhibited his work nationally, lately in Raleigh at the Visual Art Exchange and the Genesee Center for the Arts in Batavia.

His art focuses on ceramic forms that are cartoons in feeling yet they express the fluidity of clay and the shapes of the potter's wheel. Powers is professor emeritus of Genesee Community College in Batavia, N.Y.

All pieces are stoneware with a polychrome decorative finish.
