After attending the University of Miami, the Chicago Art Institute and the Penland School of Crafts, Elaine’s oil paint on porcelain sculptures are informed by her desire to create more than a beautiful form, but a way of integrating design with the form. She uses stoneware clay, glaze and reduction firing to achieve her crafts, which began by perfecting pottery skills. “ Those skills remain essential to my sculpture today. As in architecture, there is a container forum involved in the idea. The thing contained in comes from our past idea of who we are, and from where we come. My past forms the connections with the past of others.”
